PG County School Board member indicted for fraudulently getting her child free lunch

A Prince George’s County School Board member has been indicted for fraudulently getting free school lunches for her child, ABC 7’s Brad Bell reported Tuesday.

Lyn Mundey has been indicted on charges of theft, fraud and filing false documents. It’s alleged Mundey’s child received more than $1300 worth of free lunches through the federal USDA low income meals program. It’s also alleged that Mundey falsely claimed low and no income to win the benefit even as she worked as an a management analyst at the Government Accountability office and as a school board member.

Mundey was named by county executive Rushern Baker to fill a vacancy on the Prince George’s County school board in 2013 she was called “an advocate for public education.”

According to an email obtained by ABC7 News a federal investigator informed the school system in April that Mundey was among several government accountability office employees “receiving free lunch despite earning salaries much greater than the 133 percent of the poverty rate” which is the threshold for the program. It goes on to say Mundey listed “no income at all in 2011 and 2012.”

Mundey resigned from the school board on June 1 effective August 24 but there are those who believe she should leave now.

9-year-old girl beaten on Prince George’s Co. school bus

bus13n-3-webSaraia Collins’s mother said the 9-year-old was left with a mild concussion after last week’s filmed attack on a school bus.

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md –A Prince George’s County mother is outraged about what happened on her daughter’s school bus this past Friday.  She is demanding answers after they say their 9-year-old child was filmed being brutally attacked on a school bus and nothing was done to help.

The entire time Saraia Collins was filmed screaming, crying and begging fellow students to stop hitting her, the Prince George County bus driver drove on, the child’s outraged parents told WJLA.

“Get out of my face I’m not going to fight you!” Saraia is heard screaming in the cell phone video shortly before she’s seen being pummeled from all around her in her seat.

“You should not have to be balled up on a bus corner, beat like that. That’s not right,” her mother told the station while fighting back tears.

When the attack was over, the Highland Park Elementary student was left with a mild concussion and wondering why the other girls have to be so mean.

“I guess that’s just the way that they want to be,” she said.

On Tuesday the school announced that one of the main girls behind the attack has been suspended and that there may be additional punishments to come. That includes the bus driver as well who’s undergoing a review by the transportation department, WJLA reported.

Saraia’s mother meanwhile says that she’s working to find her daughter a new school. She is afraid to go back to school because she fears more trouble awaits.

Pgcps student allegedly held captive as sex slave

…in P.G. County dungeon apartment.

sex-slave

(WJLA) – When police first entered the one-room basement apartment in Prince George’s County that served as a teenage girl’s dungeon where she says she was held as a sex slave by Saleh Jamar Pointer, they discovered that the brothel conditions were squalid.

“There were so many mosquitos in there we had to work in shifts,” said PGPD Vice Sgt. Dave Coleman. However, he says that for the 16-year-old girl, whose identity we are protecting, bugs were the least of their concerns.
“She was being held in there. She was being fed crack and exchanging sex for money with whomever her pimp could find.”
The girl told police that she couldn’t count the number of men she had to be with, but she knew that Pointer collected $2,000 per day. He is now behind bars and charged with human trafficking.
Neighbor Steven Franco says he saw Pointer and many men coming and going from the tiny apartment, and he knew something was wrong. The girl looked to be in bad shape, he said, and now police say that because of their intervention, she may finally have a future:
“We saw her this morning — she looks a lot better. She’s in school, she’s in a program where she seems now happy to stay,” said Sgt. Coleman.
