An elementary school teacher is accused of sexually abusing a student in his Prince George’s County classroom.

Erwin Magnaye, a teacher at William Paca Elementary School in Landover, was arrested Tuesday. Prince George’s County Police say the mother of the alleged victim, a 9-year-old boy, contacted them in February.

According to court documents, Magnaye had inappropriate encounters with the boy, who was one of his students, between last September and this January.

The child said Magnaye kissed him and also inappropriately touched him on several occasions while the two were alone in a classroom, according to police.

Magnaye, a science and math instructor, is now on administrative leave.

Prince George’s County school officials say the school system is cooperating with the police investigation, and counselors are available for students and parents.

Magnaye is charged with sex abuse of a minor, second-degree assault and several sex offenses. He is currently in custody.
