About 200 frustrated parents stand outside Thomas Stone Elementary School in PGCPS waiting to find out who their children’s teachers are in chaotic scene. The parents waited early by standing outside the school as many of them had not been told of the new policy of having an ID.
Summer is over and it is back to school for thousands of students in Prince George’s County, where close to 90,000 kids ride the bus daily.
208 schools opened their doors today in Chaos after the interim CEO Monica Goldson “Goldson” failed to communicate properly to the community about a new requirement to parents for “having an ID”. Monica Goldson is in for now and Kevin Maxwell is out.
Kevin Maxwell stepped down amid public corruption allegations which included a grade fixing scandal, Money laundering, union corruption which is widespread, unauthorized pay raises to the executives in which Monica Goldson was part of the chaos. Those in the know are aware of “who let the cat out the bag” and then took to the hills pretending to be “holy” or “Supernatural.” County and state leaders are ready to turn the page and move forward without investigations of the issues. Some in the delegation such as Delegate Derick Davis are afraid of getting caught due to the scheme which touched on his wife.
The epicenter of the Chaos at PGCPS was at Thomas Stone Elementary School were more than 200 parents stood outside the school in total havoc as early as 7am. Mayor Rocio Treminio-Lopez who manages Brentwood, MD wrote on Facebook that;
“According to Thomas Stone Officials, the new interim PGCPS CEO new rule is that “No parents can enter the schools without ID”. The problem is that parents just found out today of this decision.
There are about 200 parents standing outside waiting to find out who the children’s teacher or the classroom number they will in.
I understand safety and the concerns about child abuse; however, the people that abused children at PGCPS were school employees. They are putting the burden on the parents.
It’s 8:08 am and parents still standing outside the school waiting to get in.”
According to Catherine Bennett Nwosu, at Glenarden Woods Elementary school, it was a much different vibe. Ids were checked at the classroom. Parents easily flowed through the building. Same school system with different expectations.
In Mount Rainier Elementary School which is three blocks from Thomas Stone Elementary, according to Aaron Lavallee, principals Till and Rife had a line, but it was not lengthy such as in Thomas Stone. They clearly handled this much differently and had the safety everyone was trying to achieve. Somehow they managed to make it work a little better, Mr. Lavallee said on facebook.
According to Lara Payne, at Robert Goddard Montessori they had a table with three staff people, and sign in sheets, as well as classroom lists, if necessary. Parents received generic visitor stickers instead of the normal one with our id photo. Most parents received a letter with our child’s teacher, but that is easier at this school since kids only get a new teacher every three years.
Graduation rates and teacher retention are other issues in a county that is seeing growth. About 200 new students enrolled in 2018.
According to WJLA, in Beltsville, little ones are carrying around signs that read “it is my first day of pre-kindergarten.” It is such a diverse county that the other side has the same phrase in Spanish. A number of the parents were holding back tears on an emotional day.
