PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. — Suitland high school in Prince George’s County reported that they were on lockdown Tuesday morning because of a social media threat, according to authorities.
Suitland High School officials said their school was on lockdown as a precaution due to the threats. They later put out a correction saying that there was no lockdown and that “students are safe in their classrooms and instruction will continue as normal.”
Officials say Prince George’s County Police and Prince George’s County Homeland Security are investigating and trying to find the person or persons responsible.
The school initially released this statement on the incident.
“Suitland High School has been placed on lockdown as a precaution due to a threat made on social media.
We are working closely with the Prince George’s County Police Department and County Homeland Security to identify those responsible for the threat.
Providing students with a safe and orderly environment is our top priority and all threats are investigated and taken seriously. Additional local law enforcement officers were deployed to the school out of an abundance of caution.
We will continue to keep you informed.”
Earlier in the morning, police announced that Crossland High School was also on lockdown following a social media threat.
No other information has been released at this time.
