Former PGCPS Student enters guilty plea after making threats ‘of violence’.

Alejandro Avelar, 20, of Adelphi

A 20-year-old man who was arrested for threatening to bring guns and explosives to High Point High School in Beltsville, Md. entered a guilty plea in court Friday morning.

Alejandro Avelar said he made the threat on his Twitter page back in November because students at High Point High School were preparing a protest against the 2016 election results. He further explained that he made the threat with the hopes of forcing a lockdown and keeping the students in school.

Avelar was charged with Threat of Mass Violence, and other related charges, according to police.

Avelar is an alumnus of the school.

During the investigation, detectives verified that Avelar did not have access to firearms or explosives.  image
